Car Sharing

Car owners from all over the world have come up with a brilliant idea of sharing their cars to others as a means of public transport. It could be done in a variety of ways such as carpool and rental depending on the arrangements between owners and users. Rules are vastly decentralized phenomena that actually vary from place to place. In some cities there might be just one car with only a handful of sharers while in bigger ones the public transit caters to a larger population needing transportation. Most commonly the participants for massive services are city dwellers that are always in the move. Lots of people benefit from it as a means for commuting to work and as a more accessible mode of transportation.

Origin of Car Sharing

In history, printed records state that the method of car sharing started in a housing joint that was on the move in Zurich. Development on the concept did not flourish in the next few years though. It was not until the early 1970’s that a whole system of car sharing was developed. Several countries attempted but not all succeeded. Some were proven failures while others were thriving. Despite of the absence of a foolproof scheme many continue to venture into the project in the hopes of eventually becoming triumphant.

Benefits of Car Sharing

Innovative waves persist from across the decades with developments in car sharing taking diverse speeds. Similarly, wide variations in goals exist. For some, the pursuit of the system is mainly to prevent dependence on automobiles since it proves to be less expensive and rather cost effective as compared to individually owning cars. With personal car ownership much is to be spent on acquisition plus the constant disbursement on insurance, registration, maintenance, taxes, and the like. This provides alternatives for those who cannot afford the expenditures that come with possession of the good.

Apart from that, advocacy of the program aims to ease out congestion in busy streets of cities and parking lots worldwide. Practice of car sharing could also mean usage of more environmentally friendly media. Mufflers give off fumes as an exhaust process for burned fuel used as a power source. With lesser automobiles on the running, there would be less pollution of the environment.

  1. This is very enterprising considering the surge of gas price increase. One should choose properly the people he/she is riding with. Some could be insensitive in handling the interior.
