HOV Lane

feature photo

HOV or high-occupancy vehicle lane is a lane reserved for a vehicle with a driver and one or more passengers. It has been encouraged to share rides or carpool to conserve on gas although there are one-passenger vehicles allowed to use the carpool lanes provided they are hybrid vehicles, motorcycles or bicycles to promote safety. Commuters utilizing the HOV lane find it convenient for it is uncongested and they can move full speed when parallel lanes suffer delays. Security camera DVRs monitor traffic and are viewed real-time to check on compliance among vehicle drivers. Some countries are thinking of converting the under-utilized HOV lanes to HOT (high-occupancy toll) lane wherein single-passenger vehicles can divert to using the HOV lane for a toll with the total flow still regulated.
