A Week of Making a Difference
Looking back to my childhood days, I remember being unbound and free with the streets as my playground. Please don’t hate my parents for it; they were not negligent of me. In fact the freedom they have given me in spending time playing there has enriched my being.
I would want to set my children free in the same manner. However, if I would do so these days it would pose a hazard on their safety. Due to the large number of private vehicles running down the streets this will be quite impossible. It is no longer secure to allow kids have their recreation out of doors. The amount of traffic is somewhat to blame.
In connection to this, several conscientious organizations that are devoted in promoting car sharing have come up with a weeklong event that would help create awareness on this matter. This would be just for starters with the hope that eventually this one step will create a difference in the world we live in.
Changing the World
In the past, events were held as a means of persuading the general public to go for car sharing such as Bike It, Safe Routes, and Cycle Network. All these were initiated by the charity Sustrans.
Sustrans aims to create awareness about ways of traveling wherein people would prefer to utilize in view of benefiting their health status as well as that of the environment.
For this particular project entitled “Change Your World”, the charitable organization encourages all of us to trade our individual car trips to either of the following options. We may choose to take a walk, cycle, or do car sharing through the utilization of the public transport systems in our localities. Hopefully, most of us could do this for the duration of a week that will start on June 30 and ends on July 5.
If we are able to do that, it is estimated that we will be able to reduce approximately 10 percent of the total traffic. Through this endeavor, there will be lesser pollution and a large sum of money will be saved. This may sound minimal to others but this will greatly contribute towards the betterment of the world we live in. After all, every journey starts with a single step.
